Storm Warning vs. Storm Watch

8/13/2019 (Permalink)

With it being mid-August, we are in the midst of Hurricane Season (June 1st-November 30th). With this being the case, there will be many different degrees of storms developing on the coast and in the gulf over the next few months. While these storms do not make their way up into Kentucky, we do receive some of their backlash in the form of rain and thunderstorms. While they are not near as dangerous as what we see on the coasts, severe weather is always to be taken seriously. In the coming months, there will be many different alerts and alarms going out about various weather developments. Two of these are “Storm Watch” and “Storm Warning”. But, do you know the difference between these two?

Watch

When a watch is going on, this means that it is very likely that severe weather could quickly develop.

Warning

Somewhere nearby, a storm has developed, and they are expecting more outbursts in the area.

While both of these warning should be taken seriously, knowing the difference is important for everyone to know!
